Mr Green Casino - Hardcore Gaming Scandinavian-Style
MrGreen may be a relative newcomer to the internet gaming stage, having emerged blinking onto the market as recently as 2008, but it took a wealth of experience to get to that point. The brains behind the site, Henrik Bergquist and Fredrik Sidfalk, were two-thirds of the trio who launched Nordic gaming giant Betsson in 2000. Feeling immense frustration at the partitioning of the gaming market - sites tended to specialise in games from one developer only, so if you wanted to play the best titles from IGT, Microgaming or Playtech, for instance, you probably needed accounts at three different sites - Bergquist and Sidfalk envisioned a gaming site that could offer the best of all worlds. The result was MrGreen, an all-inclusive casino experience that was launched in Sweden and Norway in the summer of 2008, and then gradually rolled out across Europe - finally reaching British shores in early 2010.
Boasting titles from a range of different developers, MrGreen offers excellent choice. Add to this the lure of strong tournament and mobile facilities, regular bonus awards, and some great features for minimising losses, and it's easy to understand why MrGreen has traveled so far so quickly.
Interface
The impressively homogenous layout is presided over by the Don Draper-like host of the site's title. Not that we'll need much guidance, as the interface is clean, consistent, and a cinch to follow. You can browse the entire A-Z of titles on the site, or you can use the categories on the left to narrow down the choices to blackjack, roulette, slots etc. As well as perusing an A-Z list, you can instead dip into a selection of titles carefully picked out by MrGreen, or see which games the site's customers have given the best (or worst) ratings to. Alternatively, you can choose from a series of categories. So you might want to specialise in games with a tournament mode, or those catering for big bets. Or, if you're a newcomer, you might want to start with some simpler titles. However you want them ordered, all games are assigned their own eye-catching images, and it's extremely easy to find your game of choice - or to pick one that offers an appealing theme or tone.
Games
The site hasn't yet produced the all-encompassing utopia of choice that its founders imagined, but you will find rather more variety than on many rival sites. NetEnt and IGT are particularly well represented. You may find the odd NetEnt or IGT-specific site that has slightly more of those companies' games. But in general, the choice is strong. A smattering of Microgaming titles have also been added to the ranks. That's particularly so for the almost 300 video slots, where the likes of The Dark Knight Rises, and the Mega Moolah and Untamed series rub noses with the fine slice of NetEnt and IGT games. Table games also get good coverage, with no less than four Live Roulette, and two Live Blackjack games supported. Hold'Em, Baccarat, and Three Card Poker are amongst the other Live titles. Naturally, some fantastic variations on Roulette and Blackjack are provided for those who don't want live play. These include a couple of three-wheel Roulette versions, and an Expert Roulette game with sophisticated bet types and comprehensive histories. Blackjack players can pick from a slew of different titles, including the sophisticated Professional versions, and Win Win Blackjack, with its clever bonus system. All of the games are provided in no-download versions, so there's no software suite to install. With the exception of the Live games, most titles can be run as Free Play versions - indeed, you don't even need to have an account to fire up most of the titles with play money.
Mobile and Tournaments
Just go straight to the site's mobile portal, and you'll be able to tap into the majority of the games in mobile form. This is one of the easiest sites to experience on the move, with a brilliant range of games. We can see Tournament play becoming a valuable part of this site. Their dedicated section allows you to check on when the next tournament (mostly in slot games) will be starting, and Tournament-specific bonuses are regularly offered.
Bonuses and Promotions
To UK customers, the main welcome bonus amounts to £350 in total, and takes place over four different stages. Initially, you get a 100% bonus on deposits of up to £100. Play it through 35 times, and the money is yours to withdraw. You can get 100% bonuses (with similar 35x requirements) on three subsequent deposits, the first of which must be for £50 or less, with the final two stretching to £100 each - hence the potential maximum of £350. You will have to play slot games in order to meet the turnover requirements. However, you can stop the bonuses at any time, so you're not forced to play through the entire £350 bonus before you can earn any money. And any profits you make on the money you've deposited are yours to withdraw, even if you haven't met the bonus turnover requirements, making this a pretty safe welcome bonus. You also get 10 free spins in a number of specified slot games. The terms of the exact bonus will vary from country to country - Swedish players, for instance, may be eligible for up to 80 free spins. For more experienced players, other bonuses are offered throughout the week. You may be offered bonus spins or receive random cash drops on certain days, for instance, and the site runs regular cash tournaments.
Banking and Depositing Methods
The usual Visa, Visa Electron, Maestro and MasterCard credit and debit cards are supported for deposits and withdrawals, and payments are generally completed within three days. You can use standard e-wallet accounts, like Neteller and Skrill/Moneybookers, and ClickandBuy is also an option. We're pleased to see another site offering PayPal - these transactions are still amongst the safest on the net. PaySafeCards are covered as well.
Customer Support
24-7 support is provided through telephone, email and Live Chat. It's good to have a UK phone number to call, although the latter will be charged at local rates. A useful Faq section aims to answer many of the common questions. We like it when gaming sites show concern for their customers, so it's particularly heart-warming to see MrGreen's prominently-featured 'Green Gaming' section. The lynch-pin of this will be the series of limits you can place on deposits, wagers, or losses, giving you far more tools with which to control losses. We'd prefer to see daily loss limits, as a seven-day period can seem too long to some players. Nonetheless, we applaud the comprehensive limits system. You can also get extensive information and self-assessment tests from this page, as well as information on child controls. MrGreen is extremely well-conceived, with a good range of games, a fantastic interface, and lots of useful information and playing aids. One of the more personable and friendly sites around, we can see it continuing to build a following.
